Traditions when someone dies

Rabbi Tina Grimberg

Congregation Darchei Noam

Transcription:

A candle, a yahrzeit  candle or shiva candle you light right after you return from the cemetery. The flame fights against the glass of this long tall candle. And sometimes I think it’s like a soul that still has to find peace that it’s left us on earth. They miss us as well. In what way can you add to their voice? So my sister and I, as an example, my mother was an outstanding cook and she left us recipes in handwritten little notebooks. Recipes that would read something like mix the dough, knead the dough till it feels right.Which of course is not very difficult to follow. But what was important was to take in the recipe and learn it. Because when we do it, the whole house is permeated by the scent of her cooking, even if it’s imperfect.
