Selecting a funeral home

Howard Mammon

Executive Director, Toronto Hebrew Memorial Parks

Transcription:

Anyone who’s buried at our cemeteries, they will have to go through certain ritual and tradition in terms of the body that non-Jewish funeral chapels will not know about necessarily or they cannot accommodate. So we work with really three or four depending if you want to go outside of Toronto. We will work with funeral chapels that we recognize and that we work with and have a relationship with and we know they will guarantee that the rituals that we require are being carried out with the body. So we talked with other rabbis about tahara, which is the ritual washing of the body, shmira, which is the guarding of the body, and then shrouding, tachrchim, which are the shrouds that the deceased person is dressed in these burial shrouds.
